Lots of Hollywood was American born. But to end the discussion, many people did NOT get their families out and they disappeared into a concentration camp ledger. One thing that a history major knows, many actors, directors, or business people died before we had chance to recognize their fame. Always keep in mind what might have been. Think Leslie Howard or Glenn Miller. How much more famous would they been if they had survived the war. Multiple that by the millions who perished under Nazi rule. It is not unusual for an actress, actor, or director to refuse to hire someone conservative. Tim Allen just lost his show after Trump was elected. Jane Fonda refused to work with Burt Lancaster on Old Gringo. Alison Janney said that they would never allow a conservative actor on the cast of The West Wing.
